This family festival is held every year in January, at the Peterborough foreshore reserve. Live music, amusement rides, market stalls, animal shows and canoe races kick off at 3:00pm and run until 10:00pm, when a spectacular fireworks display lights up Newfield Bay.
In early January, hundreds of competitors take part in this 1.2km ocean race, which is part of the Shipwreck Coast Swim Series. Swimmers head out over unique limestone formations and past the Port Campbell pier. The bay is sheltered and the water warm, so this is considered a relatively easy open ocean swim.
Every March dedicated athletes take part in the Kangaroobie Klassic, a challenging race in and around the Gellibrand River Estuary in Princetown. The course involves a 1km river swim, a 18km mountain bike ride, a 5.7km paddle and a 7km trail run.
This three-day community festival is held every October in Cobden, which is about forty minutes north of Port Campbell. There are dozens of activities for the whole family, from busking competitions, street parades and market stalls to a trivia night and a rubber duck race.
Come September, the Port Campbell Visitor Information Centre celebrates the Mid-Autumn Mooncake Festival by serving moon cakes and green tea to its visitors. This is a great chance to learn about one of China’s most important holiday events.
The Port Campbell Summer Market starts on the first Sunday after Christmas and runs every Sunday during January. Stalls sell arts and crafts, clothes and fresh local produce. You’ll find it right across the road from the beach, in the Port Campbell Community Park.
The Port Campbell Film Festival is held during a weekend in May. Not only is it an opportunity to showcase the talents of emerging local filmmakers, but there are also screenings of award-winning overseas films at locations around town.
